Leave nobody behind!
The enclosed statement demonstrates civil society’s collective commitment to ensure that equity is embedded at the heart of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
Inequalities are not an inevitable outcome of development progress. If we are to recognize the truly transformative potential of the new sustainable development framework, we must ensure that no one is left behind by virtue of their gender, age, disability, income, geography or ethnicity.
The signatories to this statement are notable, both in relation to their number and diversity. From gender organisations in rural Ghana to international environmental charities; disability rights organisations in Nepal to global development coalitions, these signatories represent the voices of millions, urging you to ensure that the Framework truly leaves no one behind.
It is our hope that this global civil society message resonates, and is reflected with an explicit commitment that ‘no target be considered met unless met for all social and economic groups’ in the Declaration of the Post-2015 Framework.
To demonstrate your leadership, we ask that your government propose the inclusion of this language during the February ‘Declaration’ session of Intergovernmental Negotiations.
Representatives of the statement would welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss this call and a broader commitment to securing an equitable, implementable and ambitious Post-2015 Development Agenda. Should your schedule allow, I would be grateful if you could indicate potential dates and times for such a meeting.
