12 August is the International Youth Day, and this year the message is that action is needed across all generations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and leave no one behind.
We take this opportunity to share a very relevant and informative event with you, namely our COSP15 side event on Strengthening youth with disabilities’ meaningful participation in society!
COSP15 is short for Conference of States Parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The 15th such conference took place in New York in June 2022, and this side event was organised by the Atlas Alliance, IDA, the African Disability Forum, and Youth Mental Health Norway.
The event has two main parts:
In the first part young persons themselves present examples and good practices for inclusion of youth with disabilities.
The second part focuses on the Call for Action: From Holding Rights to Exercising Them that was adapted at the first ever Global Disability Youth Summit (GDS Youth) in February this year. The Call for Action consists of 16 points on topics that young persons from different parts of the world have identified as particularly important.
We encourage all stakeholders in human rights, development and humanitarian action to sign or endorse the Youth Call for Action by sending an e-mail with the full name of your organisation to summit@ida-secretariat.org
You can watch or listen to the recording of the side event here. The recording has captions in English and international sign interpretation.
Enjoy!
